James Abbate

Editor

James Abbate is an Editor at Kensington Publishing, the largest independent and family-owned publisher in the nation, based in New York, though he lives in Las Vegas. A graduate of SUNY Binghamton and Pace University, he has been working at Kensington for over a decade in both the editorial and sales departments. He actively acquires books in nonfiction (biography, memoir, pop science, music, culture, true crime, Mafia, film/TV, and military history), with a particular emphasis on World War II and Holocaust fiction and nonfiction.

The books he has edited include thriller and mystery, as well as historical, thrillers and horror, holocaust memoirs, a history of the Pennsylvania crime family by Russell Bufalino’s nephew, and World War II stories. Meredith Bernstein

Meredith Bernstein has been a literary agent for over 30 years. Prior to becoming a literary agent, she worked as a story editor for film producers on both the East and West Coasts, as well as a freelance reader. In addition to being a literary agent, Meredith Bernstein has packaged two romance lines and co-authored SEXUAL CHEMISTRY with Julius Fast (M. Evans/Pocket). Her client list includes: Fiction— Commercial and Literary Fiction (women’s and men’s), Young Adult Fiction, Mysteries and Thrillers (series and stand-alone), All Genres of Romance. Meredith Bernstein also has been very successful in representing individuals who have accomplished memorable and outstanding achievements in their lives. Among such clients are Miep Gies (the woman who hid Anne Frank’s family and found her diary), Patricia Ireland, the former president of N.O.W., and Dennis Conner, of sailing fame. Most recently, David Carroll, a naturalist and environmental writer and illustrator, won the MacArthur Genius Award for his body of work. He was also a finalist in the nonfiction category for the National Book Awards in 2009.

With a strong background in editing and writing, Michael enjoys teaching at workshops and conferences to help develop emerging writers. He is fluent in Spanish and speaks conversational French. Lori Culwell is the founder and president of Get Creative, an internet consulting firm whose clients include Johnson & Johnson and Apple among others. She has contributed to Salon.com and the San Francisco Bay Guardian and divides her time between New York and Los Angeles. 

 

Laurie Dennison

Agent

After earning her master’s degree from the University of Florida, Laurie Dennison began her career as an English teacher. She then spent over ten years working as a freelance writer and editor in desktop publishing, including serving as a Pitch Wars mentor for five years. In 2022 she attended the Denver Publishing Institute, leading to an internship at Creative Media Agency, Inc. before stepping into her role as an associate agent and internship coordinator at CMA.
Laurie is open to queries and actively building her list. Randall Platt writes fiction for adults and young adults and those who don’t know which they are. Platt’s historical fiction has been awarded the Keystone State Reading Award, has three times received the WILLA Literary Award and twice the Will Rogers Medallion for Best Young Adult fiction. She graduated Cum Laude from Temple in August of 2005. She then attained a full-time position at Kensington Publishing in March of 2006.
