Attached to Julie’s email about the Spring Fling was the following information on getting your book(s) included in the Library’s collection:
Many of you have been asking about how to get your book into the library so that readers can check them out with their library cards. Attached is a two-page set of instructions called “Marketing Your Book To The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District for small presses and local authors.” You will find very precise information on what to do and where to send your inquiries. Best advice: Follow the instructions! Our Collection Development department is inundated with hundreds of inquiries from large and small publishers on a daily basis, so it’s important that you give them exactly what they are asking for to help make it easier for them to see your submission. If you have publishing industry or media industry reviews for your book and any awards or special acknowledgements from publishing industry sources, these will definitely help your case. Do not send fan letters or letters from your mother—they do not carry as much weight as a bonafide industry review. In your letter of introduction, it wouldn’t hurt to mention that you are a participating author in the Spring Fling Book Fair at Clark County Library! There’s no guarantee that your book will be added to the library catalog, but following the instructions will definitely help your chances.
