Patricia Smith to speak

Nationally-renowned poet and author PATRICIA SMITH reads in Las Vegas Saturday, August 27, 2016, at two different venues.

First, Ms. Smith will lead a writers’ workshop at 2:00 p.m. at the Clark County Library, 1401 Flamingo Rd., Las Vegas. That same evening, Ms. Smith will read from her work at 7:00 p.m. at the Nevada State College Auditorium, 1081 Paradise Hills, Henderson, 89002. Both are open and free to the public.

Patricia Smith is a four-time National Poetry Slam Champion, the most successful ever. She has been featured in the film Slamnation and on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam. She also made the transition to become an academic award-winning poet. Her book awards include a National Poetry Series selection, an Academy of American Poets Lenore Marshall Prize, a Library of Congress Bobbitt National Prize, and selection as a National Book Award finalist. In addition, she won a Guggenheim Fellowship and other awards. Her non-fiction book Africans in America was published by Harcourt Brace as a companion book to the PBS television series.
