I made it to the Grand Opening of the Writer’s Block bookstore and would call it a rousing success. Fellow member Amanda Skenandore made an appearance, too.
Mayor Carolyn Goodman, Councilman Coffin, and representatives from Senator Reid and Congresswoman Dina Titus all made presentations welcoming the new business and touting the importance of reading and of local authors. Tony Hsieh and his assistants were also in attendance as investors. I made sure to make contact with each and every one of them as a member of HWG.
In a discussion with co-owner Drew Cohen, he graciously said he would speak at one of our Monday meetings to tell us about self-publishing and placing consignments.
There will be activities around the celebration all day long, so if you get the chance pop in and introduce yourself.

In other news, here’s yet one more writer’s conference coming up this year:
Unicorn Writers’ Conference will celebrate its sixth conference on August 15, 2015 (Saturday) at the beautiful Reid Castle, Purchase, NY. Over 32 literary agents, 14 NYC book editors and five different workshops every hour (additional guest speakers), we are famous for our price and the successful and well-known agents we have recruited over the years. The charge is $300 and includes three delicious meals and all the workshops. For an additional $55 you select the agent and/or editor you wish to (pre-read) read 40 pages and your 2 page book summary in advance of the appointment – (30 minutes) on the day of the conference. We also have a new item – Friday night – Genre Dinner at the Westchester Renaissance Hotel. Self published authors are featured on our website, along with a video, book cover and social media announcements. These books will be sold free of charge for self published authors at our conference.
