Painted Stories accepting submissions

Painted Stories is now accepting submissions for “Love is in the Ink,” the first event of 2017. They have left the LV-CCLD and are no longer restricted to traditionally published authors.

DEADLINE: February 1, 2017

THEME: Romance (broadly speaking) in honor of Valentine’s Day
WHEN: Sunday, February 12, 2017, 2-4PM
WHERE: Bootlegger Bistro, (private dining room), 7700 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
(just north of the Blue Diamond exit off the I-15)
COST: Free for current WSN members/$5 at the door for non-members

For this one we are returning to our original format of five (5) authors reading from their work for 10-12 minutes each while our Guest Artist uses their words as inspiration to turn blank canvas into individual works of art.

A brief author and artist Q&A will be held after each author concludes and an auction of all the art work will be held immediately after the reading.

Doors open at 1PM for those interested in partaking of the Bootlegger Bistros wonderful Italian-American menu. The program will start promptly at 2PM.

There is no cost to enter and you are welcome to enter as many entries as you like.

HOW TO ENTER:

1. Select a short story, or excerpt from a longer work, that would take you approximately 10 minutes to read aloud. (if you are uncomfortable reading in front of a live audience, we’re happy to find a reader for you.) Unlike last year when we were doing this at the Jewel Box Theater, what you choose to read does NOT have to be previously published – it can even be a work in progress!

2. Keep in mind that the selection you choose should have a strong sense of setting or a highly descriptive scene so that our Guest Artist has something to work with. Dialogue driven stories are okay, but try to give our Guest Artist something to dip their paint into. Your story or excerpt does not have to be a generic romance story either – relationships between characters exist in mysteries, westerns, sci-fi, thrillers and all genres. Essays or memoir excerpts (i.e., non-fiction) also welcomed!

3. Submit your entry in either Word or PDF format to: nevadawriters(at)gmail(dot)com with the Subject Line: “Love Is In The Ink” by February 1st, or visit our website at www(dot)nevadawriters(dot)org. Selected readers will be notified by February 5th.

WSN will be announcing it’s full calendar of 2017 events shortly, including a regular mixer/open mic series, a March workshop on “Finding Your Audience”, a two-part presentation skills workshop in May, a workshop on interview skills in the fall, an open call for entries for our “Endless Summer” Painted Stories, an open call for our “Chills” Painted Stories, our ongoing monthly Author’s Roundtable, our Writers Retreat in Boulder City the end of September and a few other special programs to help you hit your word count and publishing goals for 2017.

When you see all that we have planned for 2017, we’re sure you’ll want to join WSN to enjoy significant discounts on these and other members-only events. Remember, WSN is where you help shape the writing community you want to see.

Stop by and see us on February 12th even if you don’t wish to see one of your stories immortalized in paint. We”re sure you’ll be glad you did.
